Hilary began her healthcare career in 2003 as a pediatric nurse at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital prior to relocating back home to Michigan in 2004. She worked at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital (HDVCH) as a nurse until completion of her Master’s of Nursing in 2008. She continued her time at HDVCH as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) until 2020 when her own personal life experiences broadened her perspectives of health promotion for children and families.
Hilary stepped away from clinical care to pursue a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Promotion, Education & Behavior with a focus on lived experiences and the impact they have on health and well-being. Hilary became a Certified HOPE (Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences) Facilitator, Champion, & Faculty Trainer. Upon completion of her MPH, Hilary founded Pathwaves Partnership to merge her healthcare background with her public health lens and lived experience focus to bring health promotion efforts to individuals, families, communities, and organizations. Hilary advocates for equitable access to positive experiences in a multi-sector approach by facilitating professional development workshops, providing educational sessions, and presenting at a variety of professional conferences.
In addition to Pathwaves Partnership, Hilary has returned to clinical care as a Pediatric NP in Primary Care on a per diem basis, she serves as a Parent Leader on the Stop Child Abuse and Neglect Council (SCAN) of Ottawa County, volunteers as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children, participates in the Education & Training and Prevention workgroups for the Michigan ACEs Initiative, contributes to Michigan’s State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) Priority Area #2: Childhood Experiences, and most importantly, is a mom to her 4 children.
